Welcome to Fifth Dimension Games

Fifth Dimension Games is a one-person independent studio created by Connor Smith.

The studio makes handmade games with sharp mechanics, oddball worlds, and a bit of bite. Some projects may be brutal arcade gauntlets, some may be ridiculous cartoon violence, and some may turn into something stranger entirely. The through-line is simple: build memorable experiences from scratch, don't do things by halves, and give players a universe worth poking at.

That sounds more dramatic than intended, but here we are.

Connor has a background in software engineering and systems architecture/design, which partly explains the urge to build everything from scratch and then make it more complicated than it probably needed to be. He lives with his fiancee and their black labrador, Max, who provides moral support, quality assurance, and absolutely no useful bug reports.

MUTEIGHT

The first project from Fifth Dimension Games is MUTEIGHT: a top-down run 'n' gun tribute to the golden age of arcade gaming.

MUTEIGHT is built like a lost arcade machine from 1986, designed for quick runs, hard-won mastery, and the old ritual of trying to beat your friends to the top of the board. The goal was not to make something vaguely arcade-inspired or simply dress a modern game in an 80s jacket. The goal was to build something that could plausibly have existed in that era, with the same kind of constraints, pressure, and immediacy, then serve it to modern players with a few necessary adaptations.

It is inspired by the spirit of games like Ninja Princess*, **Gauntlet**, **Commando**, and *Alien Syndrome: readable action, limited lives, fast restarts, local co-op, and a score that actually matters.

  • Wake up mutated on a cold autopsy table
  • Unleash plasma carnage with your weaponized right arm
  • Master the tentacle slingshot to propel through the facility
  • Survive the trial with only five lives
  • Chase the leaderboard until the machine gives up before you do
  • One credit. No saves. Five lives to escape.

    Can you survive?
